Our phone is running hot and it’s either visitors to Beef Week with a little desperation requesting a room for some time this week (knowing others have booked a year or three ago) or slightly confused callers asking, “Is there something on in Rockhampton this week?”
Yes. There. Is. Beef Week is on! And Rockhampton and the whole beef industry has gone a little beef stir-fry crazy as our once every 3 year Beef Expo officially commenced today.
Beef Week attracted some 85,000 visitors in 2012 and I dare say the organisers, Beef Australia are keen to reach that number again in 2015.
So what happens during Beef Week you may ask? Plenty. Apart from stud cattle judging, property tours, cattle auctions, genetics and sciencey stuff, industry award dinners etc there’s a massive list of social events from Cocktail Balls, Live Bands playing to the masses at the many bars, special guests speaking at every meal possible, cooking demonstrations and celebrity chefs putting their names to the ultra cool pop-up restaurants which we couldn’t get into last time around (not bitter at all), kids music and shows, colouring competitions, rodeos, sideshow alley, food, food and more food – did I say plenty already?
Oh and shopping! There are hundreds of exhibitors with all sorts to try and buy and the shop names alone are enough of a tease to get in there and check it out. I particularly like the sound of Kitty’s Happy Farm, Hats4heads & Dryassjackets, Pearls for Girls and Now That’s a Knife.
So get amongst it, we are. There’s literally something for everyone and I can’t wait til Thursday’s Women in Business High Tea with special guest speaker, Turia Pitt. I find her truly inspirational, a real go-getter and great ambassador for great causes, giving and helping those who are not as lucky as she. That’s right, she calls herself lucky. I’m lucky to get the chance to hear her speak. Stay tuned as I report back after Thursday’s High Tea. If you don’t know who Turia Pitt is, google her, she’s worth knowing.
Beef up my friends.
